The problem is so bad that California has recently enforced legislation that requires doctors to see patients on a timely basis. For instance, it takes 36 days to see a dermatologist in San Francisco. On a less rosy side, San Francisco also has the highest STD rates and some of the longest wait times to see a doctor in the country. San Francisco is full of Web savvy early adopters, and new transplants who are always trying to figure out how to find a new doctor. The company decided it was time for a third city, opening it up to an online vote and San Francisco won overwhelmingly. ![]() Last month some 110,000 patients used the site to make appointments. So far ZocDoc has been focused on New York and Washington DC, growing users and new doctors by double digits, month-over-month since inception. The site, which allows people to quickly see local doctors’ availability and make an appointment with just a few clicks, is finally launching in San Francisco on Monday. Given the healthcare industry’s resistance to change this is understandable, but if ZocDoc doesn’t expand to fill this need soon, someone else will.San Francisco hasn’t heard much from ZocDoc since its TechCrunch40 debut in 2007, but that changes next week. Unfortunately the site is still limited by region, with support for Brooklyn and New York City. Since launching last September, ZocDoc has seen a 2,000% increase in the number of available appointments on the site, largely because of its base of doctors and patients expands by around 50% every month. ![]() Doctors can also maximize the number of patients they see by using the system to help reschedule missed appointments or fill in last-second cancellations. The site is especially useful for urgent visits and procrastinators who may wait until the last minute for an eye exam or prescription refill. ZocDoc allows users to book their doctor appointments online, even for same-day appointments. ![]() Zocdoc, the health appointment scheduling startup that launched at TechCrunch 40, has announced that Marc Benioff and Jeff Bezos – two of Silicon Valley’s most prominent figures – have joined the $3 million Series A funding round it raised last month that was led by Khosla Ventures. ![]()
